On International Dance Day 2018, Kuch Khaas celebrated this powerful art and medium of expression with not only PechaKucha presentations but also performances by some of the most prominent performers in the country. Featuring amazing performances by Gillian Rhodes, Iftikhar Masih, Imran Nafees, Wahab Shah, Asfandar Anis Khattak, Faizaan Ahab and Suhaee Abro, as well…
Kuch Khaas aims to preserve Pakistan’s local cultures and introduce young people in particular to the rich, diverse heritage of their country. Cultural events at Kuch Khaas showcase the arts and traditions of the various cultural groups of Pakistan. In May 2004, Kuch Khaas collaborated with the Institute for the Preservation of Art and Culture to organize a special event celebrating the World Day for Cultural Diversity. With a packed audience consisting of people of all ages, the event featured live folk music from the various regions of Pakistan (performed by well-known folk musicians), a recital of traditional poetry, and the screening of a documentary on Pakistan’s cultural diversity by renowned anthropologist Samar Minallah.
Key to promoting cultural diversity and building harmony is the bridging of socially constructed gaps between different cultural and ethnic groups. Kuch Khaas’s programs including workshops, open forums and campaigns bring together people from various backgrounds and ages to engage in constructive dialogue and activities, helping erode alienating perceptions while building respect for differences. An ideology that we believe will make a stronger and more tolerant world.
PechaKucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each. The format, which originated in Tokyo, keeps presentations concise and fast-paced, powers multiple-speaker events called PechaKucha Nights. Kuch Khaas is the official City Organizer for PechaKucha events in Islamabad, and so far we have had some super exciting events that have been knowledgeable and fun but more importantly, an absolute miracle for networking in the featured field of the evening.
